This summer I read a lot of books. The one that rises above the others is Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson. It's the story of the haunted life of an anorexic girl, starting with the death of a bulimic friend--a death she feels she might have been able to prevent. Her story is told with startlingly realistic details, but is told so lyrically, that overall, it leaves you reeling with the horror of the topic and the beauty of the language. What an amazing book!
ReplyDeleteYou describe that book with such beautiful language. Now you have me interested! I'll have to go to the school library and see if we have it. Thanks, MGMS Library Goddess. And thanks for being our first official post.
ReplyDeleteI also loved Wintergirls, which I read based on MGMS Library Goddess' recommendation. My other favorite this summer was 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. A haunting tale of a girl who had committed suicide who left behind 13 tapes that described the 13 people and situations she felt drove her to this decision. It makes you think about the impact you have on other people.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was in 6th grade, I started reading the Deltora Quest series and just fell in love with it. At first I was checking them out of the library, but they were so good that I had to buy them for myself. The series is about a boy named Leif, and his freinds Jasmine and Barda. They go on a quest to find all of the jems for the majical belt, but there is a catch. For every jem, there is a gurdian that Leif and his freinds have to defeat. Some are evil and some are good, but all of them are a challenge to overcome. If you enjoy good fantasy books, I would definately recommend the Deltora Quest books.

ReplyDeleteEnder's Game, Science Fiction, best book I have ever read. It is an exiting and adventures book about a young but with a gift for guniusness. It will have you on the edge of you're seats with an enexpected and heart pounding ending. If you want a book that is smart and has great imagery then this is the book for you.
ReplyDeleteHere's a book you should all read. It's called "The Summoning" and it's about a 15 year old girl named Chole who suddenly starts seeing ghosts and she freaks out and gets placed in a "special home for disturbed teens" when actually it's a home for supernatural teens who are gifted with extrodinary powers. Soon she meets a few kids from the "special home" and Derek and Simon, 2 adoptive brothers, explain to her that she has a special talent and takes her with them to find Simon's dad who is a scientist who can help them.
